I understood that before starting my new diet, it must be time for an attitude maintenance. Indeed, it helped me a lot when I cast away the word “diet.” Turning it into “managing my health”, the same as I managed my finances, my relationships and my career. Weight loss is the same!
Afterwards I began with a plan. Took some time to make a list of my objectives by asking myself. What are the reasons for me to lose weight? What are the benefits I expect? Following by other more precise ones.
Another great thing was to create a good relationship with food. Food does not have to be the enemy. Instead, it is a thing that nourishes your body. I managed to be on the top when I saw the conveyer belt at the store filled with fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
At the same time I started to avoid an “all or nothing” attitude. It is not necessary to be perfect – I decided. And planned to have meals well 90 percent of the time, and permit for small indulgences. It helps keep me on track for quite a while.
Another excellent thing was to take small steps. I am focusing on one thing at a time. I usually missed morning meal; so I swore to take something healthy in the morning five out of seven days a week. Moreover made this my single aim till I made it a habit. Then turned to the next thing. Trying to do too much at once can make you feeling stunned, and you will be more likely to give in this fight, as it was many times before.
I decided to treat myself well. I am as significant as anybody else. Paying no attention my own wants ended up in strain and hatred and finally headed me to eating too much before. I understood that if you try to feed your soul, you will be less likely to overfeed your body.
Helpful it is also to refrain from negative self-talk. When I thought about the bad things I used to say to myself when I looked in the mirror, took a shower or got dressed in the morning. Would I say such words to a friend? I understood that negative self-talk might send me on a downward spiral from which it was tough to recover.
Last but not least, as I fill my produce drawer and put on my walking shoes, I always smile at myself in the mirror on my way out! It is much stress-free to challenge any diet program now with a new positive thinking. Losing weight has turned to be more natural and fruitful for me.
